Everyone at Alfie’s Squad is celebrating after one of our incredible young members, Liam, was named Young Person of the Year at the LFC Foundation Community Awards 2026.

Over the past year, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside LFC Foundation and so it’s been made even special to see one of our own recognised in this way, making the evening even more memorable.

Liam’s award is testament to the amazing young man he has become and here’s the nomination that helped highlight why he deserved to win:

After losing his dad to suicide, Liam has shown incredible resilience and strength. He travels weekly from Wigan to attend Alfie’s Squad and has expanded his commitment by supporting sessions in Bolton, mentoring children and young people facing similar loss. Liam recently completed a 20km walk in memory of his dad, demonstrating dedication and purpose. He also supports his mum with care and emotional awareness. His positivity and empathy make him a truly inspiring role model.

Liam’s mum, Zena, said:

“I’m just so proud of Liam. When we first came to Alfie’s Squad, he was such a shy, nervous and anxious little boy. Watching him grow in confidence, make friendships and become the caring young man he is today has been really special. This award means so much because it recognises just how far he’s come.”

Liam added:

“I’m thankful of everyone at Alfie’s Squad who has made me grow in confidence and how much my mum, Allison and Andrea and helped me. It’s also been fun to have Ryan and Gary from LFC Foundation come along to lots of our sessions. They’ve got stuck into whatever activities we’re doing and helped me when we’ve tried new things.”

We couldn’t be prouder of Liam. While we’re honoured to have played a small part in his journey, this award is in recognition of everything Liam has achieved through his own courage, kindness and determination. Week after week, he turns up with his humour and gets involved with whatever comes his way.

He’s a great role model for our younger members and a reminder that, even after experiencing unimaginable loss, hope and confidence can grow again. We’d also like to give a warm shout out to Liam’s mum, Zena, whose unwavering love, encouragement and support have helped him to be the young man we see each week. Seeing them both grow together has been a privilege.
