With the stunning surroundings of St George’s Hall, Alfie, was recently recognised at the Liverpool Chamber Innovation in Business Awards with the ‘Rising Star’ Award.
The event, celebrated outstanding contribution and achievement across the city region, including business, innovation, community and social impact.
Alfie was honoured to be up against other fantastic role models and finalists from across the city region.
After losing his dad to suicide back in 2017, Alfie was determined to help other children, young people and families facing that same pain. Since launching Alfie’s Squad in 2023, he has helped shape a peer-support programme where children and young people (aged 6-17) who have lost a loved one to suicide, meet weekly in Liverpool and now Bolton. Sessions provide the chance to build friendships and confidence through fun and engaging activities.
The award recognises not only Alfie’s courage and commitment, but also his leadership in advocating for young people’s mental health, and his vision in building an even stronger support group to reach more young people. As well as being the only charity of its kind in the UK, through his initiative, parents and carers also gain a safe space to connect and heal.
“Being recognised by the Liverpool Chamber is a huge honour,” said Alfie. “When I started Alfie’s Squad I just wanted to make sure no child or young person felt alone after losing someone to suicide. This award makes me proud of how far we’ve come, but more excited for how many more lives we can reach.”
With continued support, the aim is to be able to reach even more families, whose lives have been affected by suicide.
