Suicide Bereavement Support for Parents and Carers
Alfie’s Squad provides specialist suicide bereavement support for parents and carers whose children are attending our peer support groups. While children and young people take part in their Squad sessions, parents and carers meet at the same time and in the same location, offering families support together.
Our peer support helps parents and carers feel less isolated and more supported as they navigate life after suicide loss.
Support for Parents and Carers Bereaved by Suicide
Parents and carers who are supporting a child bereaved by suicide often describe feeling overwhelmed, unsure how to help, and alone in their grief.
Our parents and carers groups provide:
A safe space to talk openly or simply listen
Support from others who understand suicide bereavement
Reassurance that your experiences and feelings are normal
Support that runs alongside your child’s own peer group
This is peer support, not counselling or therapy.
How the Parents and Carers Group Works
Parents and carers attend the support group at the same venue and at the same time as their child’s Squad session. This means families can attend together, while everyone receives the support that is right for them.
The group:
Runs alongside our children’s peer support groups
Is informal, welcoming, and confidential
Is open to parents, carers, guardians, and family members
Has no expectation to share if you do not feel ready
How to Access Support
Parents and carers do not need to make a separate referral. When a child is referred to Alfie’s Squad, parents and carers are automatically offered support.
The process is:
A referral is made for the child
We contact the family to discuss support
Children attend their Squad session
Parents and carers attend the support group at the same time
Is this support available to parents from any part of the UK? We will also support families from anywhere in the UK as long as you are able to get to us. While we are currently have Hubs in Liverpool and Bolton, we are committed to opening new Squads across the country in the future.
Do I need to attend every week? Attendance is flexible and based on what works for you.
Is the group confidential? Yes. Confidentiality is respected at all times.
Can I attend if I don’t have a child or young person that needs support? Unfortunately not. Our parents and carers group is only for people who have children that access our peer support.
