Alfie’s Squad provides specialist suicide bereavement support for children, young people, and the families who care for them. Our support is built around connection, shared experience, and understanding, helping families feel less alone after the death of a loved one to suicide.
We offer peer support rather than counselling, creating safe spaces where children, young people and their families can meet others who truly understand what they are going through.
Our approach to suicide bereavement support
Suicide bereavement can be isolating, confusing, and overwhelming for both children and adults. Many families tell us they struggle to find support that truly understands the impact of suicide loss on children and family life.
At Alfie’s Squad, our support is:
Specialist – focused specifically on suicide bereavement
Peer-led – centred on shared experience and connection
Age-appropriate – tailored for children and young people aged 6–17
Family-focused – supporting parents and carers alongside children
Free to access – removing financial barriers to support
Our model is currently the only peer support service of its kind in the UK for children and young people bereaved by suicide.
Support for children and young people
We provide peer support groups for children and young people aged 6–17 who have been bereaved by suicide. These groups offer a safe and welcoming environment where children can connect with others who understand their experience, take part in activities, and build confidence. There is no pressure to talk about their loss. We have created a fun, happy and safe environment for the children and young people who attend.
Support is available through:
In-person Squads in selected locations
A weekly online peer support group for families outside local areas
Children are supported at their own pace, with no pressure to talk before they are ready.
Supporting a child bereaved by suicide can be emotionally exhausting and isolating. While children attend their Squad sessions, parents and carers are offered support at the same time and in the same place, ensuring families are supported together, and that support is fully accessible for everyone in the family.
Parents and carers benefit from:
Connection with others who understand suicide bereavement
Our support is available both locally and online to ensure families can access help wherever they live.
Local support – in-person groups in Liverpool and Bolton.
Online support – weekly peer support group for children and young people
We are continuing to expand into new areas so that more families can access specialist suicide bereavement support closer to home.
Please keep checking back to see if a Squad is opening in your area.
You Are Not Alone
If your family has been affected by suicide, you do not have to face it alone. Alfie’s Squad exists to ensure children and families receive understanding, specialist support at a time when it is most needed. It has been set up by a mum and son who have gone through the loss of a loved one to suicide themselves.
