Penny’s wing walk takes off for Alfie’s Squad, raising almost £3,000!
When it comes to fundraising, Penny took things to a whole new level, literally, by wing walking her way to raising an incredible £2,860 (and counting!) in support of children and young people bereaved by suicide through Alfie’s Squad.
Penny was moved to act after supporting a close friend through grief following a suicide. Around the same time, she came across young Alfie and his mum Allison sharing their story on the BBC, and the difference Alfie’s Squad is making to families like theirs. Celebrating a milestone birthday, Penny knew this was her opportunity to do something meaningful to help and was inspired to take on the sky-high challenge.
Back with both feet on the ground, Penny shares how emotional the day was,
“I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who’s donated and sent kind messages. This was a big life moment I’ll never forget. My whole family came to cheer me on, and as I soared through the clouds, I raised my arms in memory of our mum. That meant so much to all of us.”
As part of her fundraising, Penny’s friend also shared her own story with colleagues, something Penny says had the biggest impact of all.
“That’s what this was really about. We’ve been through it together. I’m so proud of her for speaking up, helping others feel less alone and encouraging people to talk about suicide and loss.”
Allison, CEO of Alfie’s Squad, adds,
“Penny’s our first ever wing walker, and what an amazing way to raise awareness and funds for suicide bereavement support. Thanks to her bravery, the generous donations raised will help towards us helping families access the support, confidence and friendships we offer at Alfie’s Squad.”
Penny’s now just shy of her £3,000 target, with colleagues giving it a final push to help her cross the line.
We’d also like to wish Penny many happy returns as she celebrated her milestone birthday in style! Obivously 40th birthday Penny!
